Jamie McGlinchey – “I’m coming for that win”

Jamie McGlinchey 2-1-0 is a Scottish amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Featherweight division, representing The Griphouse. He has solely competed for On Top Promotions throughout his amateur career.

I’d like to start things off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Jamie, and also to congratulate you on your upcoming inclusion to the On Top 24 card.

“Thanks for having me mate. It’s good to be here.”

My pleasure pal.

I hope training has been going well as you prepare to take the walk to the cage on September 10th.

“It’s actually been going brilliantly if I’m honest. Tough but the last couple of weeks everything’s been really clicking, and I’m buzzing to put it on show.”

The return of one of, if not the best Scottish MMA organisations is something fans and fighters alike have been waiting for. As someone who partook and showcased their skills in the On Top cage on many occasions, it must be an amazing feeling to once again make the walk with the organisation that you have called home since 2018 once again.

“Honestly, you’ve no idea how excited I am man. I love the show, I love how we as fighters are taken care of and I’m a creature of habit. As much as I want to fight all over, I’ll always have a soft spot for ON Top.”

Their absence has definitely been sorely missed, I’m really happy to see the show back in full swing.

Many in attendance at the On-X leisure centre will know of your winning mentality, with previous victories over Tony Stewart at On Top: Showdown & Fraser Watson at On Top 23. A perfect compliment to all the phenomenal work being put in daily at the Griphouse. It has been 2 long years since fans got to see you out there, many changes are no doubt in store. What can fans come to expect upon your return to Linwood?

“It’s actually pushing 2 and a half years out now which is mental thinking about it. but absence makes the heart grow fonder as they say, and I’ve been chomping at the bit for a while. Looking back on my last fight I felt I was very gun shy, even in the fight I lost to be honest. but I’m looking to put it all on display this time round and show what I’m properly capable of.”

As previously stated, your debut for On Top Promotions was back in 2018 at On Top: Showdown. September 10th will be the opportunity to make it a hat-trick of victories on your fourth outing.

A stable place to go out there and progress along your amateur journey will no doubt, give you many many aspirations, could we possibly be witnessing the build-up to a possible Championship opportunity for you in the not-so-distant future?

“A hat-trick of victories but we don’t stop there. I want wins 4, 5, and 6 as well. I hope so, whether it’s 1 fight removed or 5 fights I want that featherweight belt. My teammate Reece held their bantamweight belt for a long time and I want that for myself as well. Who knows, even with the day before weigh-ins now you might even see me at bantamweight, Never say never.”

With two years away, the On Top team has been working day and night to make sure it will be a night of pure unadulterated organised violence the fans have been longing for. Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?

“I’ll go with the cliché answer and say my teammates Ellis and Angie. Ellis is honestly one of the hardest workers I’ve come across in the gym and seeing his development recently has been phenomenal. He’s gonna go a long way, watch this space. Angie has been training for a long time and has mad skills that’ve never been put on show yet until now.”

I’ve had the opportunity to speak with Ellis previously, I have to agree. His approach towards his future in MMA is one to be in awe of, definitely one of the best up-and-coming amateurs in the country.

You are set to take on Inverness MT/Highland BJJ‘s George Faulds, a warrior you will no doubt be aware of from previously sharing the same card with back in 2020. What do you make of George in the build-up to your scheduled meeting?

“Seems like a bit of a wild man from what I’ve seen, but his last fight was the same night as mine. That’s 2 and a half years of improvements I need to be prepared for, but if I go in there and do what I do then he should be worried, I’m coming for that win.”

I wish you all the best for September Jamie and I look forward to witnessing your journey unfold.

“Awesome man, thanks for having me again, this has been fun!”

It’s been a pleasure brother.

Last but not least, do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?

“Yes! My wife who lets me train and compete even as an amateur while she stays home with our soon to be 4 year old and 4-month-old! She’s amazing. And a shout out to my sponsors – Kyle financial limited, The rap yard Glasgow & Hd Tiling for their outstanding contributions and faith in me. As for those coming along, watch this space.”

Tickets are still available from the fighters for what’s set to be a night of pure unadulterated organised violence in Linwood. Also available from the On Top Facebook page.
