EMMAA Announces New Youth Squad Coaching Team

EMMAA are extremely excited to announce the formation of our new youth squad coaching team. We have four coaches heading up the team, all with extensive backgrounds in the world of MMA, from both competing at amateur and professional level as well as incredible coaching knowledge and experience.

Adam Ventre (Instagram: @adamventre) joins us from Next Generation in Liverpool and said ‘It’s a privilege to be chosen to coach and help develop the next generation of talent for Team England. My goal is to help the youth achieve their goals and dreams over next few years.  Many gold medals incoming”. Adam is a 1st degree black belt in BJJ and has trained and developed some of the best pro and amateur fighters to come out of the UK, including Molly McCann and Paddy Pimblett.

Lawrence Fitzpatrick (Instagram: @lozfitzmma) joins us from Liverpool Combat Academy and said “I am really excited to be part of the development of the England Youth team, as seen from the last IMMAF World Championships, the bar was set high by all the kids who competed, we have just got to build on that. EMMAA are doing amazing things for the development of Mixed Martial Arts, no doubt in the near future we will be a recognised sport, and in the Olympic’s.” Lawrence is a BJJ black belt and is a former British and European Kickboxing Champion and has competed in MMA at both amateur and professional levels.

Sam Spencer (Instagram: @samspencermma) joins us from Smooth Combat Academy in Bury, Manchester and said “Absolutely buzzing and honoured to be asked to be a part of the EMMAA youth coaching staff. Really excited to work with some of the countries top young athletes and hopefully help guide them to some nice gold medals at the championships and then beyond into their professional careers.” Sam holds a brown belt in BJJ and has 18 wins to his name in both his amateur and professional MMA career.

Tom Crosby (Instagram: @tomthevikingmma) joins us from AVT MMA in Leeds and said “I have a passion for passing on my experience and knowledge to the next generations of MMA youngsters in my local area and country bringing them up from grassroots of combat to the professional stage.” Tom comes to us with a wealth of experience at both amateur and professional level, is the Head Youth Coach at AVT and has competed at IMMAF in both the Europeans and on the World stage.

The whole EMMAA team is pleased to have brought together such an elite coaching team for our Youth Squad, we regret that it has taken us a little time to bring new coaches in since Mark Spencer took a step back from the Head Coach role, but we can assure our Youth Team that we are committed to their development and pushing the squad forward for the IMMAF Youth Worlds in August.

EMMAA Vice-President Paul Reed said “Everyone at EMMAA team is Incredibly excited to finally have our new Youth Squad coaching team in place. Welcome aboard coaches Adam Ventre, Lawrence Fitzpatrick, Tom Crosby and Sam Spencer. Supporting them in parent liaison, selection process and admin process is Frank Johnson, also a really important role supporting the guys. This new coaching team not only have great competitive backgrounds and a proven coaching pedigree with their respective gyms, but most importantly have come together as a team with a shared goal of developing our exciting Youth team continuing the great work of Mark Spencer and his team of coaches.  It has been a tough task replacing Mark, he left big shoes to fill such is the size of the role, the reality is it has taken longer than we would have liked and I apologise on behalf of myself and the EMMAA board to all of the youth squad and their parents and coaches for the lack of interaction recently. However we are ready now with a great Coaching team, a squad day about to be announced, a youth four nations also due to be announced plus the IMMAF Youth World Championships in August. Exciting times ahead in 2023 for the youth team, look out for squad day announcements and other news in the coming days and weeks.”

Former Youth Squad Head Coach, Mark Spencer, said “Our youth team has had great success over the last couple of years, it is important we support our young athletes and continue to develop them into future Junior/Adult world champions. I would like to welcome aboard the new youth team coaches, we have some fantastic coaching talent now leading the squad.”
