ONE Championship’s Fight Night 12 Performance Bonuses Announced

ONE Championship’s ‘Fight Night 12’ card went down last night, delivering in both the quality and exhilaration that had been expected beforehand.

The event took place at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok Thailand on July 14th, and was headlined by a Muay Thai clash between Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Russian ace Tagir Khalilov.

There were an astonishing seven finishes across the card’s nine fights, totalling an early stoppage percentage of 78% throughout the night.

With finishes come bonuses, and the team at ONE certainly had a vast array of choices when it came to their picks for the $50,000 selections.

The first bonus of the night was actually awarded to the winner of the event’s first bout, with Bulgarian fighter Bogdan Shumarov emerging victorious in his kickboxing bout against the Moldvan, Constantin Rusu.

Shumarov ended the contest prematurely with a third round TKO, landing a noteworthy headkick which sent his opponent crashing to the ground. Rusu rose to his feet tentatively, and the referee saw fit to call a stop to the bout.

Phetjeeja was the next fighter on the ‘Fight Night 12’ roster to recieve a bonus, coming as no surprise to the promotion’s fanbase after the Thai flyweight extended her Muay Thai record to 5-0 with a first round TKO over Lara Fernandez.

The 21-year-old is certainly a hot prospect to look out for.

Iranian heavyweight Amir Aliakbari climbed to 13-3 in professional MMA with a first round stoppage over Canadian fighter Dustin Joynson.

After forcing his octagon counterpart against the ropes, Aliakbari took the fight to the ground while landing in a dominative crucifix position, where he was able to land a number of devastating elbows clean to the head of a struggling Joynson. The bout was waived soon after.

The card’s penultimate fight between lightweights Garry Tonon and Shamil Gasanov had promised fireworks, and it was the former who survived an early scare to deliver a second round victory via kneebar submission.

This victory comes as one of ‘The Lion Killer’s most noteworthy, especially given the nature of the fight and the undefeated record of Gasanov.

‘Fight Night 12’s final $50,000 bonus was handed to exciting lightweight Akbar Abdullaev for his rapid TKO over Ecuadorian Aaron Cañarte.

The Kyrgyz knockout specialist earned his ninth career first-round stoppage, with his latest addition coming before the one-minute mark. Abdullaev went for the kill straight from the first bell, sending his opponent sprawling to the canvas with a sharp body hook just after 30 seconds.

A barrage of ground strikes proved to be too much for Cañarte, who before this weekend had remained undefeated. The contest was stopped by referee Herb Dean after 41 seconds.
