“Be Careful” Warns Makhachev
Islam Makhachev Sends a Direct Message to Justin Gaethje on Twitter.
Justin Gaethje Sets Sights on 2024 for Long-Awaited UFC Lightweight Title Shot Against Reigning Champion Islam Makhachev.
Islam Makhachev‘s last appearance in the UFC dates back to October, and fans eagerly anticipate his return, which is not expected until after March 2024. Islam Makhachev is a Russian professional mixed martial artist and former sambo competitor. He currently competes in the Lightweight division of the UFC, where he is the current UFC Lightweight Champion.
In his previous Octagon outing, Makhachev showcased his dominance with a first-round head kick finish over none other than UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski in their highly anticipated rematch.
Makhachev vs Gaethje
Justin Gaethje is an American professional mixed martial artist. He currently competes in the Lightweight division of the UFC. He is the former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion, as well as the current UFC BMF Champion. Justin Gaethje’s stellar performances over the past year, securing victories against Rafael Fiziev and Dustin Poirier, put him in the deserving position of the No. 1 contender in the competitive division.
Despite this achievement, it seemed that Gaethje would still need to exercise patience as Charles Oliveira initially secured the opportunity to face reigning champion Islam Makhachev in October.
“Waiting on the call, Ready when you are UFC, Dana White. Let’s see who can kick the others head off first Islam Makhachev. Do Bronx’ had his shot and didn’t show up for the rematch. It is what it is.” Gaethje tweeted.
“I can do more than kicking, Be careful.” Makhachev responded.
Makhachev on the Matchup
Islam Makhachev, known for his straightforward approach, has openly communicated his disinterest in engaging in rematches, a stance that potentially favours Justin Gaethje. Gaethje, having recently faced Khabib Nurmagomedov, may benefit from Makhachev’s preference for fresh challenges. Despite this inclination, the UFC has yet to officially announce Makhachev’s next title defense, leaving the lightweight division in suspense regarding the identity of his upcoming opponent.
Islam Makhachev, in sticking to his religious beliefs, traditionally refrains from competing during Ramadan, a period that spans from 10 March to 9 April in 2024. This commitment may potentially rule out his participation in the historic UFC 300 card scheduled for April 13. Despite the upcoming religious observance, Makhachev has not yet made any official statements regarding his return date, leaving fans and the UFC in anticipation.
As the verbal sparring between Makhachev and Gaethje unfolds, fight enthusiasts are left wondering which fighter will have the last word in the lead-up to what could be a historic matchup.
