Francis Ngannou will be making his long-awaited return to MMA against 6ft 8in Heavyweight Renan “Problema” Ferreira (13-3-0) in what has rightly been dubbed the “Battle of the Giants.” This marks the first time Ngannou will be participating in an MMA bout since his defence of the UFC Heavyweight belt against Cyril Gane back in January 2022. Since then, Ngannou crossed over to boxing, where he fought British heavyweights Tyson Fury in October 2023, losing by split decision, and Anthony Joshua in March 2024, losing by KO in the 2nd round. His opponent, Renan “Problema” Ferreira, is coming off the back of four consecutive victories, with a similar physical profile mirroring the likes of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Ngannou’s return to MMA will draw many eyes, especially considering his brutal knockout loss to Anthony Joshua, his opponent Renan “Problema” Ferreira being the current tallest heavyweight in PFL, as well as boasting 12 stoppages out of 13 wins (11 KOs, 1 submission), and the very tragic loss of Ngannou’s 15-month-old son, which devastated the fight community and beyond.
Ngannou vs. Ferreira will be televised on DAZN and ESPN+ PPV on October 19th
