UFC 312: The worst PPV card in recent history?

Share:

When UFC 312 was announced to be hosted in the Qudos Bank Arena, many fight fans were excited due to the array of ranked fighters from Oceania who could fight on the main card.

With Dana White revealing the complete main card, online fans are calling UFC 312 the ‘worst numbered card in history.’ But should fans feel this way?

If you look at the main event, you will see only four ranked fighters, all four being in the main and co-main event. If you compare that to UFC Fight Night: Adesanya vs Imavov has six on the main card despite not being pay-per-view.

Another reason fans are disappointed with the card is the lack of stars from Australia and New Zealand. Many fans expected Jack Della Maddalena to be on the card, but he has been booked against Leon Edwards, headlining a Fight Night in London instead.

Other fighters, such as Dan Hooker and Alexander Volkanovski, were rumoured to be on the card as well. However, Hooker is now scheduled to fight Justin Gaethje at UFC 313, and Volkanovski is waiting for his rematch with Ilia Topuria.

Rob Whittaker is also a fan favourite over in Australia, despite being born in New Zealand but could not feature on the card due to not having enough recovery time since his first-round submission loss to Khamzat Chimaev.

Despite, not having the star-studded line up the main card UFC 312 is more entertaining than first thought. The two title fights on the card have been heavily anticipated by fans.

In the main event, Dricus du Plessis is hoping for a more conclusive finish to his rematch with Sean Strickland which many fight fans believe was won by the American.

The co-main event has the chance to be long-time Strawweight Champion Weili Zhang’s hardest title defence, facing undefeated Tatiana Suarez.

Not only is the card, headlined by two very competitive title fights but the rest of the card does not disappoint when you look into the stats. The third fight in the main card has Justin Tafa who has a 100% finish rate facing undefeated prospect Tallison Texeira who knocked out Arthur Lopes in round 1 of the Contender Series.

Also, Jimmy Crute is returning to the octagon and has an impressive record of only one of his ten fights continuing to decision. He is facing Rodoflo Bellato who has never gone to decision in the UFC himself. This is a fight to look out for with there being very little chance of seeing the scorecard!

This demonstrates that although UFC 312 has little name power it is not one to miss out on, because if the stats prove anything UFC 312 will be raining finishes!
