The MMA world just wrapped up UFC 314, and fans are once again eagerly waiting for their favorite fighter, Khamzat Chimaev, to step back into the octagon. His last fight was at UFC 308, where he won with a first-round submission against former champion Robert Whittaker. Since then, there’s been no news about his return.

However, with UFC 317 just two months away, many expect the 30-year-old to headline UFC International Fight Week. The big question now is, who will be his opponent? Three possible names are circulating, with the most likely contender being current middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis.

Top 3 Possible Opponents for Khamzat Chimaev’s Return

If Khamzat Chimaev’s visa issues are real, he may not be able to fight in the U.S. anytime soon. In that case, a clash with Brazil’s rising star Caio Borralho could be a smart move. The Natural is one of the top young talents in the middleweight division. A fight between him and Chimaev could decide the next title challenger.

Outside of the title race, a fight with Israel Adesanya could still be huge. Adesanya, the former middleweight champion, wants to get back on top. Facing Chimaev could be the perfect chance for him to do that.

Plus, the community loves both fighters, and their clash would offer a classic showdown—Adesanya’s striking against Chimaev’s wrestling. If this fight happens, the winner might go straight into a title fight.

Still, the most likely opponent seems to be current UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis. President Dana White even backed this idea during the UFC 314 post-fight press conference.

Why Dricus Du Plessis is Khamzat Chimaev’s Most Likely Title Fight

As the current UFC Middleweight Champion, Dricus Du Plessis is the frontrunner to face Khamzat Chimaev next. After his recent win over Sean Strickland and a strong record against top contenders, a fight with Chimaev would be a major test for both men.

We also can’t deny that Dana White seems to support the idea. During the UFC 314 post-fight press conference, reporters asked White if Chimaev could headline UFC 317. He didn’t give a direct answer but teased, “Many want to see Chimaev in the main event… It’s going to be fun! Stay tuned for Tuesday.”

That one line was enough to fuel fan excitement. Adding to the buzz, Chimaev’s team recently posted on Instagram, saying that a fight announcement may be coming soon. According to them, everything is moving in that direction.
