Colby Covington Booed – What Made the Crowd at WrestleMania 41 Turn on the MMA Icon?

In the world of wrestling, WrestleMania is like the Super Bowl of the NFL or UFC’s International Fight Week. The 41st edition of the monumental event just wrapped up with a two-night show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Since wrestling entertainment and combat sports are closely connected, the event attracted many big names from the UFC, including Colby Covington. However, for some reason, he was met with massive boos from the crowd at Allegiant Stadium.

Colby Covington Booed During WrestleMania 41 Appearance

Since the TKO group holds both titans (WWE and UFC), it was expected that we would see some special appearances in “The Grandest Stage of Them All” from UFC stars. Merab Dvalishvili, Daniel Cormier, and Colby Covington were the three names officially checked in as WrestleMania 41 attendees. Unfortunately, Covington’s appearance received an unexpected reaction, which didn’t help his fame.

Colby Covington, a former UFC interim welterweight champion, is known for his bold personality, controversial political statements, and trash-talking. These traits have earned him both loyal fans and strong critics. While many thought he would bring an MMA touch to WrestleMania, the WWE crowd clearly didn’t feel the same.

When Covington appeared on the big screen, the crowd at Allegiant Stadium greeted him with loud boos. Despite the negative reception, Covington didn’t seem too bothered by it. It was likely the reaction he expected.

It wasn’t just Covington who faced a cold reception. UFC president Dana White also got a hostile response when he appeared on Saturday night. This suggests fans don’t always share the good feelings, though WWE and UFC are business partners.

Wrestling fans have been fiercely passionate about their sport for a long time and often don’t welcome outsiders with open arms, especially if those characters aren’t universally loved. So, this kind of reaction was to be expected for any fighter like Covington, who isn’t seen as a fan favorite.

Colby Covington Mocks Rival Jon Jones at WrestleMania 41

MMA star Colby Covington kept his feud with Jon Jones going at WrestleMania 41. While sitting next to Daniel Cormier at the event in Las Vegas, Covington took a subtle shot at Jones. He posted a photo with Cormier on Instagram and wrote, “Night 2 at @wwe #wrestlemania41 with the Natty [GOAT] @dc_mma! This place is an electric factory.”

Even though the post may seem friendly, it was probably a dig at Jones, who is considered by many to be the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in MMA but has had issues with performance-enhancing drugs.
