Jon Jones Provides Update on Tom Aspinall Fight

Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall has been a highly anticipated potential matchup in the UFC heavyweight division for a while, with both fighters holding a belt in the division. For Jon Jones, he has been undisputed champion in the heavyweight division since March 2023, after he defeated Cyril Gane via first round submission. Tom Aspinall won the interim title in November 2023 after stepping up on short notice to fight Sergei Pavlovich in a fight he won via first round TKO, after Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic’s fight fell through.

Since then, both fighters have defended their respective belts once, with Aspinall defeating Curtis Blaydes via first round TKO back in July, whilst Jones defeated former heavyweight champion Miocic via third round TKO in November. Since then, there has been much speculation about a potential matchup between Jones and Aspinall with rumours of Jones asking for a huge payday to take the fight.

Jones has provided an update on X to the rumoured matchup. Replying to an X user who said “enjoying your last days as champ before being stripped, I see eh Jon?” Jon replied “Stripped? Lol do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that ?”

The American went onto say on X “Yall barkin up the wrong tree, I told the UFC my plans a long time ago. I have no clue why they haven’t shared them with you guys yet.”

It seems that the UFC may be planning to have the bout happen later in the year with the PPV slots covered until August. It would perhaps make sense that the fight would take place in Madison Square Garden in New York; Jon Jones’ home state. This would make sense as both fighters have history in the arena, with Tom Aspinall winning his interim belt in the arena, whilst Jones successfully defended against Stipe in MSG as well.
