MMAUK recently caught up with David Khalsa after he made his BAMMA and professional debut.

He defeated highly touted Cian Cowley at the recent BAMMA event in Birmingham.

MMAUK: Congratulations on your recent win on your debut at BAMMA 29 against Cian Cowley.

Did the fight go as you expected?

DK: No definitely not at all, I was prepared for a war. However, I knew once it went to the ground I’d have the advantage.

MMAUK: He had a lot of hype surrounding him so to beat him on your own pro debut must have been good?Β

DK: Yeah, it was a dream debut for me. A lot of people wrote me off for this fight. One thing I’ve learned is to never underestimate your opponent or look past them.

MMAUK: You are from the Birmingham area so did you have a lot of support in the arena?Β

DK: I’m originally from Aston in Birmingham but moved to Kidderminster as a boy. Lots of my friends and family came to support, over 100; so that was great for me.

MMAUK: Have you signed a multi fight deal with BAMMA?Β

DK: Yes, it’s a multi fight deal so I’m now looking forward to my next fight.

MMAUK: You had fought exclusively for Battle Arena in your amateur career, racking up a 6-1 record and culminating in becoming champion. Are they a good promotion to deal with?Β

DK: Battle Arena is the best amateur-only show in the country and was a great platform for me to start my mixed martial arts journey.

I’d recommended them to any amateur fighter looking to start theirs.

MMAUK: Your only defeat came against Luke Mulhall is this a fight you would like to make again to try and avenge the loss?

DK: I’m looking forward not back to be honest. I beat him and I gave him a rematch, no question. Then he beat me and refused me a rematch, saying he was turning professional, which he still hasn’t. You never know, we might end up fighting for a professional title in the future, but that would only be because the chips fall that way, not because of any desire for revenge.

MMAUK: Can you tell us a bit about you, what got you into MMA, did you train in any specific martial arts before moving to mma?

DK: I’ve always liked to fight but never trained in anything. I went to RPMAA (Russell Perks Martial Arts Academy in Kidderminster) 5 years ago and never looked back.

MMAUK: What are your aims within MMA?

DK: I’ve one goal. That’s to be the baddest man on the planet. The pound-for-pound best in world!
