Jason “The Kid” Knight (20 -6) has announced he has been cut by the UFC.
Speaking to BJPENN.com Knight said .“They cut me after that last loss. About two weeks after the last loss they sent me an e-mail and went ahead and relinquished my contract,”
Thus ends a UFC stint that saw Knight go 4-5 with the company. His debut saw him drop a unanimous decision before he put together a 4 fight win streak over Jim Alers, Dan Hooker, Alex Caceres and Chas Skelly. An impressive win streak including some big names saw many believe the Mississippi native could be a future contender at 145lbs.
His recent Octagon experiences have seen the 26-year old’s UFC title credentials squashed. A considerable step up in opposition saw Knight face Ricardo Lamas at UFC 211. A fight that saw Knight take considerable damage and suffer a first-round KO loss. His only stoppage defeat to date. The three fights that followed clearly provided the UFC with enough evidence to say Knight was not cut out to compete at the highest level. Knight suffered decision defeats to Gabriel Benítez, Makwan Amirkhani and Jordan Rinaldi which has ended his stint with the company.
Knight disappointed but not disheartened seems keen to press on with his career. He also told BJPENN.com he is hoping to secure a contract with another major organisation. “We are looking at Bellator, ONE or something like that. Here in the next month or so once I know my gym is doing good I will get back to the grind and try to get Bellator, ONE Championship and get a new contract.”
At just 26 years old he’s got a lot to improve upon but ample enough time to make the necessary changes. Still very much a young man in the game, with an impressive 9 UFC fights to his name already. Jason “The Kid” Knight is surely one to watch in 2019 as we see where he lands and how he comes back from this blip in his career.
