Till to face Whittaker at UFC Dublin

Irish MMA fans could be in for a treat if a proposed booking of Darren Till taking on Robert Whittaker comes to fruition.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that the UFC is trying to put the fight together although no contracts have been signed, as yet.

Former middleweight champ, Whittaker has not fought since he lost his belt to Israel Adesanya last October. Former welterweight title challenger, Darren Till returned to action last November when he beat Kelvin Gastelum following a defeat by Jorge Masvidal last March. The win over Gastelum was his first as a middleweight and a win over the former champ could put him next in line for a shot at the title.

By the time the UFC rolls into Dublin in August, Whittaker will have only fought twice in a three year period, having suffered several injuries and illness throughout that period. Still, only 29, the New Zealand born Aussie, will be looking to get back into title contention by the end of the year and a win over Till could provide that.

The UFC returns to the Emerald Isle for the first time since 2015, with the 3Arena the venue on 15th August. Till v Whittaker should be a fight that will excite the Irish crowd.
