The Trinity: Joshua, Usyk & Fury

Having had time to reflect on last weekends fight…

There’s always a lot of shit talking by casuals and general public about athletes when they don’t win, but here’s the thing.

You have a 24-3 Anthony Joshua 2x World Champion, ABA Champion, GB Champion, World Amateur Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist. Someone that has done so much for boxing in the UK for amateur and pro fighters, someone that has given unknown media the time to create content, someone that is always conscious of the way he represents himself because of how many people look up to him. Someone since his 14th pro fight has fought legit contenders or champions;

14 – Gary Cornish (Undefeated, vacant Commonwealth HW title)
15 – Dillian Whyte (Undefeated, vacant British HW title)
16 – Charles Martin (IBF HW Championship)
17 – Dominic Breazeale (Undefeated, Ranked 13th IBF)
18 – Eric Molina (25-3 & test positive for steroids post fight)
19 – Wladimir Klitschko (Vacant WBA HW Championship)
20 – Carlos Takam (Ranked 3rd IBF, 12 days notice to fight)
21 – Joseph Parker (WBO HW Championship & undefeated fighter)
22 – Alexander Povetkin (WBA Mandatory)
23 – Andy Ruiz (31-1 & 4-weeks notice)
24 – Andy Ruiz II (Regained IBF, WBA, WBO titles)
25 – Kubrat Pulev (IBF Mandatory)
26 – Oleksandr Usyk (WBO Mandatory)
27 – Oleksandr Usyk II (Loss to undefeated fighter)

Hats off to Oleksandr Usyk, one hell of a fighter and his resume really does prove it from going undefeated to unifying the Cruiserweight division and winning The Muhammad Ali Trophy. All that then takes over the Heavyweight division whilst there’s a war in his home country.

Then we move onto the infamous Gypsy King, the man that came back from severe mental health and became champion again, but for all you casuals that love a bit of shit talking here is the facts. Tested positive for steroids in 2016, has made racist, homophobic and sexist comments which he later apologised for. Stated he was going to donate his whole purse to mental health services… yet to see that. Stated he was going to build houses for people that were homeless due to substance misuse… yet to see that. Resume is quite questionable if you know boxing

25 – Wladimir Klitschko (WBA, WBO, IBF & Ring HW Championships)
26 – Sefer Seferi (Was a career cruiserweight, having fought once at heavyweight. Fury came in 30kg heavier)
27 – Francesco Pianeta (35-4-1, former two-time world title challenger)
28 – Deontay Wilder (Ended in a draw, but the referee didn’t count Fury properly when he went down IMO)
29 – Deontay Wilder II (WBC HW Championship)
30 – Deontay Wilder III (Retained WBC)
31 – Dillian Whyte (Retained WBC)

Some people will argue Deontay Wilder is a dangerous fighter with immense knockout power, which I would question. When your fighting unranked fighters or fighters so far down the ranking you probably should be knocking them out. You could argue Louis Ortiz who is mid 40s, Eric Molina who was on a decline after Joshua and then Fury who to be honest on paper should beat Wilder since his boxing technicality isn’t the greatest.

My overall point is people that know boxing know that there is massive difference between AJ and Fury. Facts don’t lie and when you talk about what both have done inside and outside the ring, it speaks for itself…
