The first mixed martial arts event organised at the Arena Futuroscope, HEXAGONE MMA 7 thrilled the 2,500 spectators present in Poitiers on Saturday, March 11. An exceptional night was marked by the championship victories of Aymard Guih and Samantha Jean-François, broadcast on BT Sport in the UK and Ireland, and DAZN internationally.
Fighting out of Antrim in Northern Ireland, UFC veteran Norman Parke defeated Alfredo Souza by unanimous decision. In a dominant performance, he demonstrated the benefits of experience through flawless execution in all areas. The Irishman came into the fight with a 30 – 7 record and elite-level background across shows that include UFC, KSW and BRAVE. He most famously won the Lightweight tournament in The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes in 2012.
Parke commented: « I am happy with my performance and another 3-round fight under my belt, with no injuries. It was a good fight, mostly all stand-up. My next goal is to fight in the 77kgs, welterweight category and I’m waiting to hear back about my next fight. This week is just about rest and recovery, and then back to training again on Monday.
Does this mean that a title bout is next on the cards for Parke, with Aymard Guih (16-13, France via Ivory Coast) having just secured the welterweight belt on HEXAGONE MMA 7 against Brit Walter Gahadza?
In the meantime, HEXAGONE MMA’s next fight nights are close upon us, with the promoter next putting down its cage at the Arènes de Béziers on June 3, for its first outdoor event. Tickets are already on sale and if anything, Saturday’s Futuroscope event should have convinced fans that they need to book their next HEXAGONE MMA fight night.
