Following a surprise reveal during Saturday’s CW 162 broadcast, Cage Warriors – Europe’s Leading MMA Organisation – has confirmed a third title bout for its historic return to Newcastle on Saturday, November 25th.
Light heavyweights Andrew ‘The Vice’ Clamp and Matty Byfield will face off in a titanic clash for the vacant belt, previously held by UFC star Modestas Bukauskas.
The bout will take place on the main card of a stacked CW 164 bill at the Vertu Motors Arena, and will air live on UFC Fight Pass and international broadcast partners.
Blackledge MMA’s Clamp (12-2) picked up a huge win in his last CW appearance, submitting previously unbeaten Dutch striking specialist Ghassan Abdenabi in the first round of their contest at CW 156 in Wales.
The victory marked his eleventh by way of finish as a professional.
Birmingham’s Byfield (6-1) is unbeaten in Cage Warriors competition, with stoppage victories in his last three contests.
Training out of Team Renegade, he counts the likes of CW title challenger Omiel Brown, former CW lightweight champion and current UFC star Jai Herbert and UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards among his training partners.
“It’s time to crown a new light heavyweight champion in Newcastle!” said CW President Graham Boylan.
“Andy Clamp showed why he’s considered one of the top ground specialists at the weight in his last performance against Ghassan Abdenabi.”
“Team Renegade is on a roll, and Matty Byfield will want to keep up that momentum and bring home more gold to the midlands.”
“With three title fights, Chris Bungard vs Perry Goodwin, Dylan Hazan vs Stipe Brčić, the debut of Kennedy Freeman and more to come, CW 164 is shaping up to be one of the biggest Cage Warriors shows of all time!”
