Moises Calleros was handed a four-year ban from boxing by UKAD (UK Anti-Doping) following his TKO loss to British Boxer Galal Yafai in April 2023. After the fight he produced a positive test for Cocaine, but it has somehow gone unnoticed that he had passed away three months ago.
UKAD handed Calleros a four-year ban on the 24th of June following his bout against Olympic Champion Galah Yafai, in which the Brit stopped the Mexican in the 4th Round. Calleros tested positive for Cocaine and its metabolite benzoylecgonine. He went on to have one more fight before he sadly passed away, with him defeating fellow Mexican Gerardo Verde Moreno in the 1st round back in December 2023.
Ukad had initially released a statement saying:
“Anti-Doping Rule Violation! Mexican Professional Boxer Moises Calleros has been banned for four years, following Anti-Doping Rule Violations (ADRVs) for the presence and Use of Prohibited substance, cocaine and its metabolite.”
But following their mistake they released another statement apologising for their huge mistake.
“UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) has today received information regarding the death of Mexican professional boxer Moises Calleros.
“UKAD received this information shortly after publishing details of the outcome from a case concerning Mr Calleros in accordance with the UK Anti-Doping Rules.
“Unfortunately, UKAD had no information regarding Mr Calleros’ sad passing at the time of publication and has now removed all details of this case from its channels.”
The Mexican spent the majority of his career at either minimumweight or flyweight and ended up retiring with an impressive 37 victories, 11 defeats and a single draw, with one attempt at a world title back in 2018.
