OKTAGON MMA made history this past Saturday night inside Deutsche Bank Park Stadium by officially breaking the world record for an MMA attendance. Exactly 59,148 fans filled our second football stadium event of the year, OKTAGON 62, and witnessed an incredible evening where two titles changed hands.
In the main event, Christian Eckerlin (17-6, 1NC) defeated Christian Jungwirth (15-9) to lift the ‘King of Germany’ belt in a welterweight clash of national stars. The atmosphere was absolutely electric as both men had legendary walkouts which lifted everyone to their feet. In the end, it was Eckerlin’s offensive wrestling and top control which secured him the decision victory and sent his adoring Frankfurt fans home happy.
In a feature lightweight bout, Max Coga (27-18-1) had a successful OKTAGON MMA debut by stopping Antun Račić (27-12-1) during the second round. ‘Mad Max’ connected with a perfectly timed knee which sent his adversary crashing to the canvas before the referee waved off the contest. With seven shows already scheduled in Germany next year, there will be plenty of opportunities for Coga to perform at home and produce more memorable moments in his career.
Mallory Martin (10-6) shocked Katharina Dalisda (11-4) in her hometown to take the strawweight title back to America in an upset decision victory. Niko Samsonidse (11-3) earned the biggest win of his career by submitting Daniel Torres (15-7, 2NC) at featherweight and Lazar Todev (11-6) secured another heavyweight title shot after stopping Adam Pałasz (9-4) due to strikes.
Elsewhere on the card, Max Holzer (9-0) cemented himself as one of the best German prospects around by finishing Mohammed Sadok Trabelsi (12-8) in a featherweight bout. Will Fleury (13-3, 1NC) sent another statement to the light heavyweight division with a stunning knockout of Pavol Langer (13-11) and Deniz Ilbay (7-1) got a TKO win over Michael Deiga-Scheck (11-6) at featherweight.
