He defeated his next two opponents via decision in Hiroshige Tanaka and Harris Sarmiento. Burns submitted Honorio Banario via rear-naked choke in the first round at One FC 23 Warrior’s Way. He defeated Timofey Nastyukhin in round one via rear-naked choke. Burns tapped out Aiebek Nurseit via triangle-armbar in the first round at Titan FC 51. At Titan FC 54 he submitted Luis Gomez in round one via rear-naked choke. At DWTNCS week seven of season three Burns faced fellow submission specialist Derrick Minner and tapped him out in the first round via triangle-armbar to lock up a UFC contract. In his debut outing for the UFC at UFC On ESPN Plus 24, he knocked out Nate Landwehr in the first round to earn the first knockout victory of his professional career.
