In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will be introduced to a hardened battler ready to embrace the war of life at Bellator 225 on August 24. A professional since January 2009 and representing Fighting Arts Academy CT, Nick Newell owns a 15-2 record in 17 career bouts as a professional comprised of 10 submissions, two knockouts and three decisions. Newell has managed to finish 12 of his 15 professional victories. He has competed with various promotions including CES MMA, World Series of Fighting and Legacy Fighting Alliance.
In his MMA debut, he defeated Daniel Ford via TKO in the first round. Newell submitted his next five foes that included wins over Denis Hernandez and Steve Butler. Then at XFC 17, he faced Chris Coggins and defeated him via majority decision. Newell defeated his next two opponents in Eric Reynolds and Adam David Mays. In his debut appearance with World Series of Fighting at WSOF 4, he submitted Keon Caldwell in the first round. Newell also tapped out Sabah Fadai in round one at WSOF 7. At WSOF 20 he faced Joe Condon and defeated him via unanimous decision. Newell also defeated Tom Marcellino via unanimous decision at WSOF 24. For his lone outing with Legacy Fighting Alliance at LFA 35, he submitted Sonny Luque in the first round via neck crank. At CES MMA 56 Newell faced Antonio Castillo Jr and tapped him out via rear-naked choke in the first round. The win also earned Newell the 10th submission victory of his professional career.
In his debut appearance for Bellator MMA at Bellator 225 on August 24, he will face off against fellow submission specialist Corey Browning in a lightweight encounter. Bellator 225 will also feature David Rickels, UFC veteran Timothy Johnson and the return of Austin Vanderford and Taylor Turner. Good luck Nick!
