Jon Jones has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 178 main event bout against Daniel Cormier due to a leg injury sustained during training earlier this week.
The UFC announced the news via Fox Sports 1 on Tuesday. UFC 178’s new headliner will be a flyweight title clash between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso, a matchup that was initially scheduled for the UFC 177 co-main event.
The light heavyweight title fight between Cormier and Jones will now be rebooked for January 3 in Las Vegas at UFC 182.
It’s been a crazy week for Jones and DC. In addition to their infamous brawl that took place during a press conference at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Jones and Cormier were recorded exchanging threats following a recent ESPN interview.
UFC 178 also includes a featherweight clash between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier as well as a bantamweight fight between the returning Dominick Cruz and Takeya Mizugaki.
