Tom Duquesnoy maintained his grip on the British Association of Mixed Martial Arts featherweight championship but not without substantial difficulty.
The once-beaten Duquesnoy walked away with a controversial split decision over “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes” graduate Brendan Loughnane, as he retained his 145-pound title in the BAMMA 22 headliner on Saturday at the 3Arena in Dublin. The 22-year-old Duquesnoy (11-1) will carry a two-fight winning streak into his next outing.
Loughnane (10-2) controlled substantial parts of all three rounds and flexed his superiority in the standup, rattling the champion with punches and kicks to the body and head before cutting him in the second round. Duquesnoy secured a takedown in the middle frame and upped his aggression in the third, doing enough to deserve the nod in the eyes of two of the three judges.
In the middleweight co-main event, Christopher Jacquelin submitted Chris Fields with a second-round triangle choke. Fields (10-7-1) raised the white flag 4:55 into round two, as the product remained winless over his last four appearances.
Meanwhile, Cage Warriors Fighting Championship veteran Alan Philpott escaped with a split decision over the previously unbeaten Regis Sugden in their featured battle at 135 pounds. Scores were 29-28 and 30-27 for Philpott, 29-28 for Sugden.
