UFC Fight Night – Holm vs Correia Preview

Saturday night sees the UFC return to Singapore for Fight Night 111 where former women’s bantamweight champion, Holly Holm takes on Bethe Correia in the main event. Victory is crucial for Holm who is coming into this fight on the back of 3 consecutive defeats, that after shocking the world when she dethroned Ronda Rousey back at UFC 193. She most recently lost a very close and many would argue controversial decision to Germaine de Randamie for the featherweight title at UFC 208. This looks like the ideal match-up for The Preachers Daughter as she looks to get her career back on track, when she faces the number 11 ranked in the division. Correia is coming into this fight on the back of a majority draw decision against Marion Reneau and will be looking to return to winning ways against the former champ. A victory for the Brazilian could catapult her into the top 5 in the division and put her in the title picture.

The co-main event sees the heavyweights take to the octagon where former champion, Andrei Arlovski and Marcin Tybura will throw down. Similar to Holm, victory is a must for Arlovski as he comes in on a 4 fight losing streak, all by way of stoppage. He most recently fought Francis Ngannou where he was knocked out in just 92 seconds. Tybura on the other hand comes into this fight victorious in his last 2, knocking out both Viktor Pešta and Luis Henrique. The judges are unlikely going to be required for this one.

Another key fight is the eagerly anticipated welterweight debut of former lightweight champion, Rafael dos Anjos. Tarec Saffiedine will welcome RDA to the welterweight division hoping to show him that it is a bad idea for the Brazilian to step up in weight. Dos Anjos will go into this bout confident against the number 11 ranked welterweight who comes in to this one off back to back decision defeats. The winner of this fight will most likely jump into the top 10 of the division. Can RDA go on to win the welterweight title too?
