Can Kevin Lee rise to the top at lightweight?

Kevin Lee has had a rough time coming up as he has been trying to find himself in the UFC over the last couple of years as he has been dealing with the loss of his trainer and moving up in weight class.

That was until he had decided to take control of his own destiny after his failed attempt at welterweight it was good to see that Kevin had decided to work with new trainers and find himself a new head coach which for me is something I feel he needed especially with the talent that man possesses I could really see him being a problem at any weight class whether it be lightweight or welterweight he was just in desperate need of guidance after his back to back losses to Al Iaquinta and RDA.

But wow he came back with a bang at UFC 244 against Gregor Gillespie after having laser focus and discipline under his new coach the incredible Firas Zahabi of Tristar Gym this was a good look to see the real potential Kevin Lee really does have especially as Gregor is no walk in the park for anyone, I must admit I am not 100 per cent sold just yet I am interested to see what the future holds but this win under Tristar is a great step in the right direction for Lee.

So this poses the question of what is next for Kevin?

As it has been well documented Lee has been calling out the powerful Islam Makhachev who’s style is very similar to his training partner Khabib Nurmagomedov, Is this Kevin and Firas plotting a way to the title? Take out the team mate with similar styles in the hope of getting a title shot next after Ferguson?

I personally think this is a great idea and will give Kevin Lee an idea where he is at in the lightweight division.

Islam is not unbeaten he has been knocked out once before at UFC 192 this could be a great fight for Kevin Lee.

Another option is to wait on the sidelines until Dustin Poirier is back in action as he has just come off a loss to Khabib this would be a good test for Kevin to get back into the title mix, I personally think it is a good match up for both fighters and it would be fun.

The other option could be Justin Gaethje who seems to be the one that people are staying away from, he looked great in his last few fights he’s on a 3 fight streak and fighting with that same wild attitude but a lot more calculated.

Whoever it may be I am hoping to see Lee come back stronger with his new camp at Tristar and show the MMA world he has got what it takes to be in the mix for the title.

Let me know what you think could be Kevin Lee’s next move in the comments!
