After a long and prosperous career, Anderson Silva has been released from the UFC. Silva began his UFC career on June 28th 2006 where he faced Chris Leben. Leben was known for having a solid chin and Silva knocked him out in fifty seconds. From there Silva would go on to defeat Rich Franklin for the Middleweight title.

Silva boasted an impressive skill set and shocked the world many times over. He defended his title ten times eventually losing the strap to Chris Weidman in 2016. Silva went 16 straight fights unbeaten from 2006 to 2012.

After his second defeat to Chris Weidman where he broke his leg, the case can be made that Silva was never the same afterwards. Although, in many of those losses he was still consistent and lost via decision.

Silva’s last fight come against Uriah Hall on Halloween losing via TKO in the fourth round. In the lead up to the fight, Silva was saying that it would be his retirement fight, but during his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping, Silva seemed on the fence about it being his last fight. Of course, it is his last fight in UFC, but there are plenty of organisations out there that would take Silva in.

At the post-fight press conference, Dana White voiced his concern about Anderson Silva possibly joining another organisation

“It is disgusting that a commission would let him fight again’ he told reporters.

White also admitted that it was a mistake to allow Silva to fight again.

“I made a big mistake,” White said. “I should not have let him fight this fight”

“But out of respect to him – he is a legend of this sport, a legend of the company – I did something that I disagreed with”

It is understandable why Dana allowed him to fight. During his UFC career, Silva fought two generations of fighters and inspired many to start mixed martial arts. He has done a lot for the company and has helped it grow to new levels. Anderson Silva is one of the greatest of the sport and is a future hall of famer.

Given that Silva is 45-years-old, and in his last 9 fights has only won 1 and picked up a NC, it would only be right to suggest that fans would like to see Silva officially retire. His current record sits at 34-11.
