Tony Ferguson set for return against rising contender Beneil Dariush at UFC 262

The former UFC interim lightweight champion is reportedly ‘expected to return on May 15 against #10 ranked Beneil Dariush in an interesting clash.

First reported by MMA Junkie, the matchup has supposedly been verbally agreed between the two fighters, with contracts yet to be finalised.

Ferguson will be eager to halt his two-match skid, coming off a particularly disappointing 2020. He lost an interim title fight with Justin Gaethje in May and a non-title fight against Charles Oliveira in December. Prior to the Gaethje fight, Ferguson put together a 12 fight win streak and was on course for a title fight with undisputed champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Dariush announced his return to the lightweight division coming off an impressive split decision victory against Diego Ferreira. Dariush, enjoying a six-fight win streak, recently demanded a top-ranked contender for his next fight. With #5 ranked Tony Ferguson as his opponent, he’s certainly got his wish.

No location for UFC 262 has yet been announced by the UFC.
