Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman has removed all doubt — becoming the first professional mixed martial artist to finish Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal with strikes. And what a strike. Launching a massive straight right in the second round, Usman immediately sent Masvidal to hell, before following up with Punches from Mars.
Round One:
Both fighters start with a lot of movement as if to try and control the centre of the ring. Usman strikes Masvidal with an overhand right one minute in. Both fighters are trying to figure out an in against the other. Masvidal trades the overhand back a minute later. Shortly after the “Nigerian Nightmare” lands the first takedown of the fight. Halfway through the first round and Usman is controlling the ground with his great wrestling. Masvidal is throwing any strike he can land to get back to his feet. Almost and soon as Masvidal is on his feet he is back on the ground. This time it was short-lived. With a minute left, both fighters are standing and exchanging strikes. Masvidal may be losing this round but he still looks poised.
Round Two:
The second round has started a bit slower. Both fighters were starting to show respect for the other. Usman landed a devastating overhand right and knocked Masvidal out!
With tonight’s win, Usman is now expected to defend his title against Colby Covington, as per UFC President Dana White.
