Machete meets Fluffy: Albert Duraev vs Anthony Hernandez at UFC 273

UFC Middleweights Albert Duraev and Anthony Hernandez matchup April 9th at UFC 273, per Farah Hannoun.

Fighting out of Volgograd, Russia, Albert ‘Machete’ Duraev earned a deserved UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series September 14th 2021, courtesy of a dominant first-round submission of Caio Bittencourt. Following the performance, Dana White spoke favourably of Duraev, saying “Albert is nasty. Obviously he has that style like Khabib… they take you down, they put you where they want you, and they do whatever they want to you when you are down there, and they end up eventually destroying you”.

Duraev made his promotional debut at UFC 267, October 30th 2021, defeating Roman Kopylov via unanimous decision. The 33-year-old enters UFC 273 holding a professional record of 15-3, and rides a 10 fight win-streak.

Anthony ‘Fluffy’ Hernandez also earned his UFC contract through Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series June 19th 2018, following a sensational 40 second knockout of Jordan Wright; the result was later overturned to a No Contest, as Hernandez tested positive for metabolites of marijuana. Fighting out of Dunnigan, California, the 28-year-old holds an 8-2 (1 NC) professional record, including a 2-2 UFC record. Hernandez last fought at UFC 258 where, despite entering the bout as a +375 underdog, the American secured a second round submission of Rodolfo Vieira; the guillotine choke victory earned a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.
