Lanchana “Mean Green” Green 4-4-1 is an English professional Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Welterweight division, representing The Lab. She has competed for Made4TheCage, The Ultimate Fighter, RIZEN, Celtic Gladiator, Almighty Fighting Championship, Fight Club Rush and is set to make her Bellator debut for the Bellator London card on May 13th.
I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Lanchana, and also to congratulate you on your inclusion in Bellator’s return to London.
How has training camp been going in the build-up to your highly anticipated return to the cage?
“Training is going really well, I managed to get a short trip in at GB Top Team in London which was great to train with the female fighters down there and under the guidance of Brad Pickett & Ash Grimshaw. Back up North, I’ve gotten some really valuable and productive sessions in with my good friend and BJJ Black Belt Jackie Harper, the legend Pete Irving, a couple of guys down at my original Muay Thai gym DBMA and of course my teammates and coach Wil at my home gym The Lab.”
It must be an amazing feeling to not only be making your debut walk down to the Bellator Cage, but also to be fighting on home soil. What does it mean to you to be fighting in front of your home crowd?
“I’m very excited! I’m even more excited that my friend Kate Jackson is also fighting on the card. It will be amazing to share the evening with her, also fellow North East fighter Andrew Fisher. I have a few people coming to watch and a few watch parties that’ll be happening up North. so I just wanna go there, put on my best performance and enjoy the whole experience.”
It’s set to be a sold-out Wembley arena on May 13th when Scott Coker’s Bellator comes back across the Atlantic, the fans in London will be eagerly anticipating the return. You face off against Chiara Penco, a highly talented boxer with incredible Jiu-jitsu prowess. What do you make of Chiara, have you had a chance to study your opponent leading up to your scheduled meeting?
“Yeah, I and my coach always study my opponents, it’s like my homework, I take notes then we compare our findings haha. It’s Wil that does all the game planning though, he’s the mastermind! She’s had a lot of success on the ground but I’m confident in my own grappling game as well as my striking ability to come out on top.”
As previously stated this will be your 1st appearance for one of the MMA world’s biggest stages of them all. But you’ve worked so hard along your career to stake your claim on the roster. A Made4TheCage Fighting Championships veteran, you bring with you an array of Kickboxing techniques that I’m sure will make a permanent mark on the strawweight rankings.
With no title as of yet to aim for, do you think it’s just a matter of time before your division gains a crown so to speak?
“Bellator Strawweight Champion sounds good to me!! I have fought all over, local and on high-level promotions but I understand this will be my Bellator debut and I’m happy to work my way up the rankings and introduce myself hopefully with a bang to the division.”
The strawweight division holds many great names at Bellator MMA, are there any of these phenomenal athletes that you look forward to being matched up against in the not so distant future?
“I’ll take any! Cliche, I know but throughout my entire Thai Boxing career (albeit not overly busy) and MMA so far I have fought and will fight any strawweight put in front of me.”
Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing on the Bellator London Card?
“This card is stacked! The main card is FIRE! I’m actually buzzing that I should be on fairly early on so that I can watch the rest of the fights!”
It’s been a great pleasure speaking with you today Lanchana, I wish you all the best for your bout and future with Bellator. Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?
“Just wanna thank everybody for their support, locally and worldwide, it all means a LOT to me. Thank you to my coaches Martin Wilby, Pete Irving & Jarrad Smithson. Thank you to my sponsors:
