Carla Mackenzie-Le Roy on her emotional return at Road to Contenders 5

I Would like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Carla and also to congratulate you on your recent fight announcement for Road to Contenders 5.

The heart of a fighter is truly something to be in awe of, each warrior that steps foot into the cage has a story to tell. But some more than others, stand out and beam the pure unadulterated strength from within to defeat not just their opponents.

This year has been a tough one for you and one that has to be one of the most inspirational I have ever witnessed.

Earlier this year, you received the news that you had blood cancer, and found a new opponent to battle. This must have been such an emotional roller coaster for yourself and your loved ones.

With the astronomical work put in by yourself and the doctors who treated you along your road to recovery, what you thought was never again going to happen, happened. You are once again set to enter the proverbial Lion’s den after beating cancer, I’d like to take this opportunity to say you are a true inspiration to us all.

How did you feel when receiving the news you’d now be clear to continue on your fighting journey?

“Getting the news I was cancer-free as u can imagine, was just amazing. No words can describe how grateful I am to be able to watch my children grow up. Obviously, my passion is boxing and to be able to carry on doing the thing I love most in life is just incredible.”

I am lucky enough to have witnessed your pure jubilation to compete once again and have seen just how much of an effort you put in daily to continue to be the best you can be. For the readers, could you elaborate on the journey so far?

“I am now 9 weeks post-op and have been training hard for the last 4 weeks to regain my fitness and strength. I don’t expect to be the same fighter I was before my surgery, but I will put on a technical and powerful show. Give me a few more months and I’ll be back to 100 percent.”

“Most people would have rested up but knowing there is a chance my cancer could come back, I want to get back in the game fast.”

The date is set in stone, May 14th you once again take centre stage at Road to Contenders 5.

taking on yet another explosive boxer in Lori Smith with 50 plus fights under her belt. Witnessing you in action at Contender 31 has shown me that you are more than happy to take on the tougher opportunity. Have you had much time to do anything in the way of research on Lori in the build-up to your highly anticipated return to Norwich?

“No, I have been told by a few people that have fought her that she Is tough.”

You and many of your “Assassins” will be taking the walk to the Cage that night, it must be great to have your team with you on your emotional return?

“I love making it a team night. It always makes it seem so much more fun and worthwhile. I love watching those I teach and train with progress.”

Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?

“I just love to watch what I can of the show, sometimes the newbies are the best as they brawl.”

I wish you all the best for May 14th Carla. I look forward to witnessing you out there.

Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?

“A big shout-out to my beautiful family for all the support they have given me throughout my ordeal. My husband (coach) has been so amazing throughout, I truly love him so much. And a huge thank you to everyone that’s been behind me on the journey too. Also, thanks to all that brought tickets.”
