Cage Warriors – Europe’s Leading MMA Organisation – has today confirmed a huge championship bout for its return to London’s indigo at the O2 on Friday, July 21st.
Newly crowned middleweight champion ‘The Huyton Hammer’ Mick Stanton will make the first defence of his title in a rematch with a former champion, London’s James Webb.
The five-round affair will feature on the main card of CW 157; a stacked night of mixed martial arts that serves as the lead-in for UFC London, which takes place in the same venue the following night.
With victories over George Smith, Alex Fontes and UFC veteran Darren Stewart under his belt, ‘The Huyton Hammer’ captured the title in a gripping five-rounder against surging prospect Will Currie at the BT Sport Studios in March.
He is undefeated in his last five contest at middleweight.
Stanton and Webb first met in a three-round affair at Cage Warriors 112 on March 7th, 2020.
Webb earned a unanimous decision on that occasion, recently notching up a similar result against Irish prospect Paddy McCorry.
The Team KF middleweight also holds notable wins over the likes of Craig White, Jason Radcliffe and Thomas Robertson, who he defeated to lift CW gold in 2019.
“Mick Stanton showed the world that he’s a force to be reckoned with in the middleweight division with an incredible performance against Will Currie…” said Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan.
“…but he’s got unfinished business with James Webb.”
“Webb knows what it takes to become a Cage Warriors champion, and he’s had some of his most impressive performances in the indigo at The O2.”
“We’re going to find out who’s the top dog at 185lbs on July 21st!”
Also announced for CW 157 are former featherweight champion Jordan Vucenic, and surging prospects Lone’er Kavanagh and Nik Bagley, with further fights and fighters to be revealed in due course.
Tickets for the event – which will air live on UFC Fight Pass and international broadcast partners – are available here.
