Boomerangs – featuring UFC fighters Tyson Pedro and Tai Tuivasa

Australia is a nation with a proud fighting heritage. In today’s episode of Across The Pond, you will meet two Australian boomerangs striking terror into the hearts of their respective divisions. A professional since September 2013 and representing Lion’s High Performance Centre, Tyson Pedro owns a 7-1 record in eight career bouts consisting of five submissions and two knockouts.Prior to signing with the UFC in 2016, Pedro competed for various promotions in his native Australia including Australian Fighting Championship. Through four UFC appearances thus far, Pedro owns a 3-1 record with one Performance of the Night bonus.

In his MMA debut, Pedro knocked out Charlie Ngaheu in the first round. He submitted his next two opponents in Don Endermann and Michael Fitzgerald. Then, Pedro submitted Steven Warby via rear naked choke in the first round at AFC 17.

In his UFC debut at UFN 101, he submitted Khalil Rountree in the first round via rear naked choke and earned Performance of the Night in the process. In his second UFC appearance, Pedro defeated Paul Craig via TKO in the first round at UFC 209. In his fourth UFC outing, Pedro submitted Russia’s Saparbek Safarov in the first round via kimura at UFC 221.

A professional since August 2012 and representing Lion’s High Performance Centre, Tai Tuivasa owns an unbeaten 7-0 record with all seven of his victories coming via knockout. Through his two UFC appearances thus far, he holds a 2-0 record with one Performance of the Night bonus. In his MMA debut, Tuivasa defeated Aaron Nieborak via TKO at Gladiator Cage Fighting Gladiators 2. He defeated his next two opponents via TKO in Erik Nosa and Gul Pohatu. Then at AFC 16, Tuivasa knocked out Brandon Sosoli in the first round. At AFC 17 he defeated The Ultimate Fighter season 10 alum and UFC veteran James McSweeney via TKO.

In his UFC debut at UFN 121, he knocked out Rashad Coulter in the first round via flying knee and earned Performance of the Night in the process. In his second UFC outing at UFC 221, Tuivasa defeated France’s Cyril Asker via TKO in the first round.

I think Pedro and Tuivasa have come at a crucial time for their respective divisions as both divisions are in dire need of a fresh infusion of young talent. I can’t wait to see what direction these two Australian boomerangs are headed in next!
