Journey Newson welcomes Fernie Garcia to the UFC May 7th at UFC 274, per Carlos Contreras Legaspi.

Holding a 10-1 professional record, Fernando “Fernie” Garcia makes his promotional debut at UFC 274 riding a five fight win-streak. The 29-year-old, fighting out of Dallas, Texas, earned a deserved UFC contract through Dana White’s Contender Series October 5th 2021, following a first-round TKO-stoppage of Joshua Weems. An impressed Dana White spoke highly of Garcia’s performance, remarking “Great chin, incredible counter puncher, big power, he’s 10 and 1, he’s 29 years old; no-brainer”. Garcia has never been finished as a professional, having only lost via split decision to Cody Freeman at LFA 62.

Prior to his promotional debut at UFC on ESPN 3, Journey Newson held a professional record of 9-1; taking the fight on short notice as a replacement for Sergio Pettis, Newson ultimately lost via unanimous decision to Ricardo Ramos. Despite following his debut loss with a devastating 38-second knockout of Domingo Pilarte at UFC 247, the result was later overturned to a ‘No Contest’ by the Texas Department of Licensing and Registration after Newson failed a drug test. The 32-year-old, fighting out of Portland, Oregon, last fought at UFC Vegas 11, in a first-round knockout loss to Randy Costa.
