Golden Ticket Fight Promotions once again showed why they are one of the top and on the rise MMA promotions in the UK with another stacked and entertaining card this weekend. GTFP has been steadily building a roster of some of the best prospects both pro and amateur in the UK, many of which were featured on this week’s card. several big names were in attendance, including UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards, along with his brother, top Bellator middleweight Fabian who were both there to support their fellow team Renegade fighters, UFC and UK MMA legend Dan Hardy was also in attendance to corner some of his prospects from Hardy-Wallhead’s Rough House fighters.
Firstly, we have to mention the main event. Thomas Paull vs Perry Goodwin. Thomas was going into this fight already as the light-welterweight champion, looking to pick up a second belt, the vacant 155 strap. To do that he had to take on Perry Goodwin, a veteran of cage warriors and a man who gave Rhys Mckee a tough fight. There was a lot of trash talk, and signing, coming from Goodwin aimed at Paull. Paull, who is deaf, was on the receiving end of a lot of Goodwins trash talk, which even included several phrases such as “you’re dead” which he signed to Paull. The fight itself was over relatively quickly with Paull landing a huge 3 piece combo to put Perry down, with a follow-up forearm eerily reminiscent of the one suffered by Michael Bisping at the hands of Dan Henderson to finish it off. The KO left Perry out for a good few minutes and has left him with a broken jaw. with such a huge win over an established name like Perry Goodwin who knows what could be next for Paull, but it is safe to say he is not short on options. 
One of the most anticipated fights on the card was a rematch between two bitter rivals in amateur lightweight champ, Alex Gill taking on the man he beat for the belt, Wes Tully. The two fought back at GTFP 16 where Gill took the unanimous decision. There was a lot of animosities before, during and after the fight which readily continued into the rematch. The result was a lot more conclusive in this time round however with Gill scoring a submission in the second round. Unfortunately, the result did spark a large altercation in the crowd, one that the staff at GTFP along with encouragement from both men in the cage was quickly nipped in the bud. It’s important to know that at these regional shows, much of the audience is made up of friends and family of the fighter so it’s understandable that tensions can be high but it is something you never want to see happening regardless
Renegade MMA’s Mo Shazlee came away with a fantastic finish, scoring a calf slicer in the first round, a finish rarely seen in jiujitsu let alone MMA. the submission came after his opponent, Martin Harris, attempted to escape a heel hook. however, Shazlee quickly capitalised and sunk in a calf slicer bringing a quick end to the fight and moving Mo to 4-0 in his professional career.
if you are yet to watch a GTFP card, either on PPV or even live, I cannot recommend it enough. Fantastic fights, fantastic venue and a great atmosphere it is definitely a promotion to keep your eye on.
