After a Stella 2016, including a record breaking 9 fight win streak and a dominant victory over a former champion, Tony Ferguson has some how slipped out of lightweight title talk… all though ‘El Cucuy’ is making big waves in his fights, he isn’t one for talking a big game, choosing more to let his actions do the speaking. Those actions have got him to the top of the division, where he now wants to face either, Newly crowned Champion Conor McGregor or top contender Khabib Nurmagomedov. Ferguson doesn’t have kind words for ‘The Eagle’ who he has been matched with twice before, until injuries derailed the fights! On the MMA Hour, Ferguson said:
“All bullsh*t aside, the guy is a whiny b*tch”
“Instead of people saying, ‘hey, you need to go for the belt,’ or, ‘you need to do this, you need to do that’ — me, I’m waving my little finger in the air and I f*cking keep moving forward. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing, which is taking care of my family and training my ass off. And that translates into winning and getting Performance of the Night bonuses. Right now I got, what, eight finishes out of 12? I’m on a nine-fight win streak. I’m what, 22-3? Sh*t, where’s my title shot, man? I’m not complaining, I’m not saying nothing, because I know it’s going to come to me.”
This would be a pivotal matchup in the division, and an extremely entertaining one. Tony Ferguson’s 9 fight win streak vs Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 24-0 record… certainly no arguing the winner deserves a crack at ‘The Notorious’ for the Lightweight title sometime on 2017!
