UFC officials have announced the official UFC 179 co-main event. Former division No. 1-ranked contender Glover Teixeira takes on powerhouse Phil Davis. Both men are coming of decisive losses.
Teixeira is coming off a five-round beating at the hands of champion Jon Jones at UFC 172 but before that, the Brazilian had gone eight years without a defeat.
Davis came up short against returning Anthony Johnson in the co-main event of UFC 172. Prior to that he was riding a three-fight win streak with victories over Wagner Prado, Vinny Magalhaes and title challenger and former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
UFC 179 takes place on October 27, 2014, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, featuring a main event title fight between Featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.
