According to multiple reports, Costa cited a ‘severe case’ of the flu which has prevented him from preparing adequately for the match up.

The fight was to take place next month, with the winner deciding the champion, Israel Adesanya’s next move.

While it is unclear if the UFC will prefer to reschedule the bout for May, Robert Whittaker has used the cancelled bout to call out Adesanya for a title fight.

According to Sporting News AU, ‘The Reaper’ is willing to wait until Israel Adesanya is ready to fight at 185Ibs again.

The Australian has earned two decision victories over top contenders Darren Till and Jared Cannonier since losing the middleweight title to Adesanya back in 2019.
