Conor McGregor – I’m STILL two-weight champion (VIDEO)

I’m STILL two-weight champion

Conor McGregor has been uncharacteristically quiet recently following his historic 2nd round K.O. win over Eddie Alvarez at the promotions first, long awaited visit to New York, Madison Square Garden at UFC 205, Making UFC history and becoming a two weight world champion simultaneously.

Following this, the promotion announced that Conor has since relinquished his 145lbs belt after he announced he will take “time off” following the news his long term girlfriend, Dee Devlin is pregnant with their first child but if you ask Conor, he is STILL the two weight world champion.

After being awarded the RTE sports personality of the year, he sat down for an interview and corrected a few misconceptions the UFC and the interviewer may have had, who referred to McGregor as the “lightweight world champion”.

“Don’t mind that; I’m still the two-weight world champ,” McGregor said. “They can try to say what they want. They can try to put out the people who I’ve already destroyed. The current champion (Aldo) is a guy I KO’d in 13 seconds. The current interim champ (Holloway) is a guy I destroyed as well. Officially I don’t care what nobody says. I am the two-weight world champion, and that’s that.”.

Boxing

Connor McGregor remains in the limelight following his acquisition of his boxing licence, sparking further rumours of a potential fight (boxing) with Floyd Mayweather.

“I can go out and maybe conquer the boxing scene as well,” McGregor said. “That’s a very serious thought. That’s a very serious conversation that’s happening, so we’ll see, I’ve got those wrestling guys trying to contact me, as well, I’ve got Hollywood trying to contact me, as well, I’ve got all the options.”

McGregor would not shy away from a fight with Mayweather and says the UFC is his priority but he is yet to be approached by the new owners, or knows when his next fight will be.

McGregor took aim at Floyd Mayweathers last bout and poor pay per view numbers, “well see what happens, of course, I got the boxing licence, I mean again, his (Floyd Mayweather) last pay per view buys were 350,000 buys, it was a flop, it was a dud”.

“I know  (UFC President) Dana (White)  been on record like, ’10 months – he’s taking 10 months, I just don’t know. I’m weighing out my options. I expect conversation. I expect them to fly that jet to me. (Ari Emanuel), (Patrick Whitesell) (the new owners from WME-IMG ), the guys who bought the UFC for $4 billion? I want to speak with them.

“I want to see what their plan is because right now I don’t know nobody’s plan. All I know is they’re trying to type onto a keyboard and say, ‘We’re taking this belt and that belt, and we’re doing this and that.’ You ain’t doing nothing without contacting me first. I’m ready for anything.”
