Hot on the heels of stepping it at short notice to fight at UFC London next month, Steven ‘Braveheart’ Ray has been rewarded with a new 4 fight deal by the UFC.

Scottish fan favourite Ray made the announcement via his Facebook and instagram pages this morning, saying.

“I can now announce I have resigned a 4 fight deal with the UFC and I am fighting in 4 weeks at UFC London. I will face Kajan Johnson.

I took a gamble with my career under some bad advice not realising I was risking not being resigned with the ufc I only ever thought i was risking the price in contract.

I want to thank Sean Shelby and the UFC for giving me another chance as it was my fault for fighting out my contract.

I also want to also thank my new manager for even making this possible Ali Abdel Aziz he was willing to help me without even being signed with him which shows he’s a legend!

Thanks to all my friends, family, coach’s, team mates, my sponsors and all my fans that have continued to show ur amazing support throughout.

The journey continues

Ray currently holds a record of 21-7-0 and will be hoping that a win against Johnson will put him back on track following a disappointing, first round KO loss to Paul Felder in Glasgow last year.

The popular lightweight has a UFC record of 5-2 and owns wins over notable veteran names, Ross Pearson and Joe Lauzon. This new deal certainly reflects the UFC‘s belief that Ray is a talented fighter with a bright future. While he remains outside the current top 15 in the crowded lightweight division, A win against Johnson will provide the platform for reaching the rankings within this new deal.

Being signed by Ali Abdel-Aziz is yet another indicator that the future is bright for the man they call Braveheart. Abdel-Aziz manages an aray of big names including Cody Garbrandt, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Fabricio Werdum and Frankie Edgar to name just a few.

If anyone is capable of guiding Ray to the top of the sport, it is Abdel Aziz.
