Jacob Buckley 2-3-0 is an English amateur Mixed Martial Artist currently competing in the Bantamweight division, representing Kingstar MMA. He has competed for Samurai Challenge, Almighty Fighting Championship and UKFC.
I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me today Jacob, and also to congratulate you on your recent fight announcement for the UKFC19 Card.
I hope training has been going well in the build-up to your scheduled return to the cage?
“Training has been going great. I’m feeling fit and healthy and getting sharper every time I step into the gym. It’s been a few months since I last competed, so I feel fresh. I’m looking forward to this one.”
Your return was put on hold due to unfortunate circumstances back in March when you were set to take on Corin Smith at UKFC18.
Could you give the fans who were in attendance hoping to catch you in action a rundown of the events leading to your unfortunate pull out from the card?
“It wasn’t really one thing, it was multiple things that sort of just happened and came up. My head wouldn’t have been 100 percent in it, I think that’s when injuries happen. I know my performance wouldn’t have been up to the standard it should have been. But now I’m back, focused and training hard to prepare for this one.”
How does it feel to finally be getting back into the iconic Union Jack cage once again?
“Feels great. I feel like every time I compete I learn and get better from it each time. I can’t wait to put all the improvements to the test in May.”
This being one of many times you’ve taken the walk down to the UKFC cage, it seems to be a favourite location of yours to walk down your amateur journey. What does it mean to you to be able to showcase your skills for one of the biggest stages on the regional MMA scene?
“UKFC is very well organised, there is very rarely a mismatch with the match-ups and is a good stage to compete on. many of the fighters that have competed on the show have gone on to do great things.”
Your 4th appearance for the Preston based organisation has been confirmed. You take on Team Ryano’s Paddy Symes. A warrior whose fighting style and capability to go to the judge’s decision is well known. Have had the opportunity to do some research on Paddy since finding out you two will be squaring off at the Riva Showbar on May 14th?
“I’ve not really looked at much on Paddy, I have watched his last fight which was well fought, apart from that nothing. I mainly focus on myself and my training, because people improve all the time. Like if he’s looking at my last fight trying to build a plan around that then he will have a shock.”
It’s turning out to be quite the action-packed card, the card has nearly been filled with some of the most exciting athletes combat sport has to offer. Other than your inclusion on the night are there any matchups in particular that you’re looking forward to witnessing?
“Yeah, I’m looking forward to Zach Fry vs Charlie Boulton. I think that’s a banger of a fight.”
I wish you all the best for May 14th Jacob and look forward to seeing you out there. Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to give a shout-out to?
“Thanks, just like to mention Kingstar MMA and The Mill fitness and nutrition, who do all my s&c and provide me with diet advice so I can make weight with no problems. I look forward to seeing everyone on May 14th.”
