Chael Sonnen Believes Conor McGregor will ‘retire’ if UFC 303 main event doesn’t go ahead

With UFC 303’s main event teetering on the edge, one MMA legend believes that if the fight falls through, Conor McGregor will retire for good.

While the UFC has yet to officially cancel the much-anticipated bout, rumours are swirling that the organisation is scrambling for backup plans.

Chael Sonnen recently made a bold claim: if McGregor doesn’t fight at UFC 303, he won’t fight again. This prediction has added fuel to an already raging fire of speculation.

The excitement for McGregor’s return against Michael Chandler is palpable, but fans might have to wait longer than expected. McGregor has been out of action since breaking his leg in his third fight with Dustin Poirier three years ago. He’s been waiting for a chance to make his comeback.

His next fight is scheduled for June 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, with concerns over late-night partying and injuries, the chances of hearing “The Foggy Dew” blaring from the speakers seem slim.

Chael Sonnen believes that if McGregor pulls out, his fighting career will end. In a video on his YouTube channel, Sonnen stated, “If Conor McGregor doesn’t show up for this, I’m here to let you know that any idea you have that he’s still fighting or he’s still in the business or he wasn’t feeling good and they’re doing it another day, he and Chandler are gonna fight somewhere down the road; I’m here to let you know now if you’re told that by anybody, you have been given bad information.”

He added, “If McGregor does not show up on June 29 and fight Michael Chandler at 170 pounds, it is the same as announcing Conor McGregor’s retirement from the sport.”

With McGregor’s status still unclear, the combat sports community is buzzing with potential replacements. Sonnen, also known as “The American Gangster,” has his own ideas about who should step in if McGregor can’t make it. The future of the UFC 303 main event remains uncertain, leaving fans and fighters alike on edge.
