At a rally in Pittsburgh on Monday, former President Donald Trump stirred up controversy by proposing a “migrant league” of fighters to face off against UFC stars. With Election Day just around the corner, Trump suggested to his audience that UFC President Dana White could create a special league for migrants to fight in the octagon, and have the top migrant fighter face the UFC’s champion.
Trump explained, “I told Dana, you should set up a league with the world’s best fighters and a migrant league. At the end, have the migrant go against the champion. I think the migrant might actually win – that’s how tough some of these guys are.”
The speech continued with Trump expressing a similar wish for Penn State’s wrestling team to compete against migrants, suggesting, “Those Penn State guys, I wanted them to wrestle the migrants.” Trump’s comments on migrants and fighting leagues have sparked considerable backlash, with many deeming the idea demeaning.
This rally echoed similar remarks Trump made in June, where he first floated the idea of a migrant fighter league. Dana White, a longtime Trump supporter, spoke in New York, praising Trump’s resilience and economic record, calling him “the hardest working human being I have ever met.”
Trump’s comments have drawn condemnation from political opponents. The Biden campaign responded critically, calling his statements dehumanizing. A campaign spokesperson stated, “Trump’s speech shows he is a threat to freedoms and a danger to the White House.”
This unusual suggestion comes as the presidential campaign heats up, with both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris heavily campaigning in Pennsylvania to sway voters in this key battleground state.
