During the weekend, the undefeated World Catch Wrestling Champion Curran Jacobs finally made his much-anticipated professional MMA career, after having great success as an amateur, going undefeated with a record of 3-0 with all finishes being in the very first round. On Saturday night we got to experience the debut of the number one Catch Wrestler in history, from the names defeated and under the ruleset, it would be difficult to argue. Fighting men massively oversized and with seldom rest periods in between he still went out and submitted all 3 men via Sleeper Hold (Rear Naked Chokehold).
When his opponent came out for his professional debut the man looked to land a heavy shot quickly, but much like CM Punk when he fought Mickey Gall, it was evident the moment that fight started that one person was more skilled than the other. Curran quickly got the fight to the ground after a solid takedown, the difference was his opponent had the previous fighting experience, but it wasn’t evident from this position, quickly mounted and viciously pummelled via ground and pound he exposed his back to Curran and was submitted in rapid fashion after this.
With his elite-level NCAA Division I Wrestling and knowledge of the submission grappling game, with known knockout ability in both hands it makes the man known as “The Giant Slayer” one to watch out for, he is used to fighting against men that are vastly larger in terms of weight, so having him compete at his own natural weight against opponents his size will be interesting to say the least as this is not a man that gets beaten by pressure or grappling mass, instead routinely conquering that style on the mats. This is definitely one to watch out for as a real potential threat in MMA, at only one fight into his professional MMA career, and 3 amateurs, all resulting in no damage being taken, the sky is definitely the limit.
