Corin Smith 1-1-0 is an English amateur Mixed Martial Artist. An amateur competitor since 2019, representing Combat Athlete MMA. He has competed solely for Preston based organisation UKFC over his fighting career.
I’d like to start this off by thanking you for taking the time to speak to me todayl Corin. I hope training camp has been going well in the build-up to your scheduled bout at UKFC18?
“My pleasure, this camp is going great. I’m feeling sharper than I ever have been so far!”
Last we saw you in action was back in 2021 at UKFC14, taking on Luke Burns. Unfortunately, the night was not yours despite a valiant effort. What did you take from that great fight with Luke?
“The main thing I took from that fight was that I was not aggressive enough, I had a few opportunities to finish the fight but as I wasn’t aggressive enough I had let it go the distance which I knew was not going to be in my favour.”
March 12th seemed to be in jeopardy when your original opponent Jacob Buckley had to, unfortunately, pull out of the fight. What was going through your mind after receiving the news?
“Originally I was a bit frustrated, luckily it was only 6 weeks out and the good guys at UKFC managed to get me a replacement quite quickly, albeit at a little bit of a lower weight but it will do.”
Thankfully your training wasn’t in vain due to quick work by Ste Nightingale and the UKFC team. On March 12th you will now be taking on Cameron Thompson of MMA Academy Liverpool. Both of you fought at separate events throughout 2021, have you had the opportunity to do some research on your new opponent?
“I haven’t watched any of his previous fights, however looking at his record he is a flyweight so I feel I’m going to have a size advantage. His fights seem to have ended in all submissions either win or loss, I feel this will be no problem with the experience I have in BJJ.”
With preparations well underway and a new objective in the form of Cameron, without giving too much away what steps have you been taking to make sure you walk out of the Riva Showbar with another Digit on your record?
“Mindset is a massive thing I have been working on in this camp, however, I’ve also been working a lot of wrestling and grappling, striking. My striking has improved massively over this camp too so I’m feeling super sharp.”
Last but not least do you have a message for the fans that will be in attendance and anybody you’d like to shout out to?
“My brother Tristan Smith and I are bringing an army from Combat Athlete In Telford so it will be a great show as ever. I’ve been getting some tough rounds in at Impact MMA in Wrexham with Ian Willy Williams and his team so thank you to them, also been getting a lot of work in with mg instructor Neil Simkin and the black belts at Gracie Barra Cannock so a thank you to them also. Looking forward to the show!”
