Nate Diaz Calls Out ‘Fake BMFs’ in UFC Tournament Lineup

Nate Diaz has shared his thoughts with UFC President Dana White on who he believes should compete in a potential new UFC BMF (Baddest Mf) tournament. This suggestion comes after Dustin Poirier proposed the idea of a four-man tournament to compete for the BMF title, which was originally introduced following Diaz’s memorable callout of Jorge Masvidal at UFC 241.

Diaz, known for his tough, blood-filled battles inside the octagon, inspired the creation of the BMF belt, which was first awarded to Masvidal after he defeated Diaz at UFC 244 in 2019. Since then, the belt has been passed on, with current holder Max Holloway set to challenge Ilia Topuria for the featherweight title at UFC 308 on October 26.

Poirier, who fought for the BMF title at UFC 291 against Justin Gaethje, has suggested that the tournament include fighters like Gaethje, Dan Hooker, and Holloway, calling it a “bloodbath” waiting to happen. Hooker, always ready for a challenge, responded on social media, saying, “Don’t threaten me with a good time.”

However, Diaz didn’t agree entirely with Poirier’s picks. On Instagram, he tagged Dana White, stating that while Hooker and Holloway might be fit for the BMF belt, “the other two nerds” didn’t belong in the tournament. This sparked a wave of reactions from the MMA community, with some fans questioning Diaz’s comments, pointing out that Diaz never won the BMF title himself. One fan said, “All four of those dudes are total BMFs. Even more than Nate, if we’re being honest.”

Despite Diaz’s opinions, Poirier’s idea has caught the attention of UFC President Dana White, who seemed intrigued by the concept of a BMF tournament, stating, “Sounds fun, I love it.”

While the UFC hasn’t hosted a one-night tournament since UFC 23 in 1999, the prospect of such an event featuring some of the toughest fighters in the sport would undoubtedly be a major draw for fans.

As the UFC gears up for UFC 308, featuring Holloway’s title challenge against Topuria, the idea of a BMF tournament remains an exciting possibility for future matchups.
