After a back injury forced Jorge Masvidal (28-8) to pull out of his scheduled lightweight clash with Northern Irishman Norman Parke (20-2), Gleison Tibau (32-10) has been named as Parke’s new opponent for the lightweight clash that will take place at the upcoming UFC Fight Night 59 event, to be held on January 18 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, with the main card airing on FOX Sports 1, and preliminary bouts expected to air on FOX Sports 2 and stream on UFC Fight Pass.
A winner of 4 of his last 5 fights, and currently on a 2-fight winning streak, one of the long considered biggest lightweights in the UFC Gleison Tibau will step up to face rising lightweight prospect and Ultimate Fighter: Smashes winner Norman Parke.
Parke, who is unbeaten since a 2010 loss to Joseph Duffy (the last man to beat Conor McGregor coincidently) has so far compiled a record of 4 wins and 1 draw in his UFC career to date, Gleison Tibau will surely represent the biggest challenge so far of the Northern Irishman’s Mixed Martial Arts career, and in front of a partisan Boston crowd, which is such to have a large Irish contingent, the rising prospect will hope to gain another win inside of the Octagon and continue his march towards the top 15 of the division.
