Tony Ferguson had called out Michael Chandler less than a week ago for an end-of-year showdown. Chandler declined that fight, citing January 23rd instead. Now, Ferguson will meet one opponent people were looking past when it comes to the title picture. Charles Oliveira.
In my opinion, this fight makes the most sense and Oliveira is much more deserving of an opponent like Ferguson than Chandler is. Oliveira has said he deserves to be in the title picture with the five names already mentioned. McGregor, Poirier, Ferguson, Gaethje, Chandler. Since other fighters are now matched up, perhaps the fight to make is Gaethje vs Chandler?
Oliveira will get the chance to back up his words when he takes on Ferguson on December 19th. Oliveira is on a 7-fight win streak with his last victory coming in March against Kevin Lee.
Ferguson’s last bout came against Justin Gaethje in a No. 1 contender fight. Of course, Ferguson lost that fight via fourth-round TKO, and he will be looking to get back to his winning ways when he takes on Oliveira.
