Dana White has confirmed that Leon Edwards will no longer fight on UFC Fight Island and that UFC fight night will now be headlined by a welterweight affair between Neil Magny and Michael Chiesa.
Edwards was supposed to be fighting against Khamzat Chimaev on 19th December in Las Vegas but it was rebooked for January 20th after Edwards tested positive for COVID-19. Now Chimaev has had COVID-19 and not fully recovered and the fight will be rebooked again.
White told The Schmo in an interview “He won’t. What we’re doing is we’re going to push that fight back. I just saw that Ali (Abdelaziz) came out today and said that he (Chimaev) had COVID. I don’t know why he wasn’t telling people that, but for some reason, he did not want people to know that he had COVID.”
White continued, “The doctor told him when he went back to the gym. I guess he was having problems with his lungs…. So they told him to take some more time off and not start training till like early January. So we’re going to push that fight back and we’re going to do Magny vs Chiesa.”
